The flexible 2-DoF study used an open-source dataset, which is good for reproducibility but limits the scope. The CRANE-X7 work focused on a particular low-cost platform that, while popular in research settings, isn't representative of all affordable arms on the market.

The good news, if you want to call it that, is that the tools for better identification exist. Semi-parametric methods, regularization techniques, and feasibility constraints can produce models that actually predict behavior. The bad news is that most users won't implement them, because the spec sheet says the arm is accurate to 0.1mm and that seems like enough.
